From a very young age, I have always loved music. If there was a song I loved, I'd listen to it on repeat 100x. During my adolescents (in the 90s), I realized that the singles on the radio did not always translate to the version released on an album. My anal-retentiveness of wanting what was being "advertised" via radio translated into my obsession with purchasing CD singles in order to obtain the specific version. As the single market started to die in the USA, I noticed that the record labels and the artists were no longer releasing commercial singles containing the radio format. This frustrated me as I felt as a listener I was being cheated, therefore, I started purchasing promotional singles on eBay (or getting them from DJ friends) or import [commercial] singles from the UK or Australia.
If you are a fan of music, like me, you know that the "radio edit" comes in many shapes and forms, and it isn't always an amended version removing swear words. I created this blog in order for fans to obtain the radio formatted version that is no longer commercially available for purchase. All uploads are from my own personal library and are personal CD-rips. They will always be formatted in the iTunes/AAC/256 kbps format. If you use iTunes Match, be sure to view the individual file to make sure that the CD-Ripped version shows "uploaded". I've noticed that iTunes will often mismatch the album version to the radio version (if the radio version is cutting time from the album).
For new fans, it's important to note that singles from the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s often featured re-worked versions of the album version, especially if it was an alternative or rock artists. This effort was to create a more radio-friendly sounding version. In addition, it's also important to note that majority of "radio edits" simply reduce the length of time by either cutting a verse, eliminating an intro, or creating a fade-out. This is because the average listener loses attention after the 3-minute mark.
I thoroughly believe that music is a form of art and that the artists and everyone else involved should be rewarded for their efforts, thus I strongly believe in supporting your artists by purchasing their music. However, like I said, I do feel cheated by many record labels and the artists when they fail to release the radio formatted version. I will continue to post single releases (never albums) of radio edits unless that specific version is available for purchase.
Enjoy and remember to turn up the volume.
